![]() ![]() It was a little worn cosmetically and a it was also a 12ga so I passed. ![]() A few months ago, there was another 500E on Gunbroker. But it was 12ga so I didn't really want it. It looked like your typical Anson & Deeley style game gun. It had color case hardened receiver with scroll engraving. It was an ejector gun with an English stock and splinter for end. Some 500s (not any imported by Charles Daly) have ejectors. Most 500s have extractors and the BSS has ejectors. The 500 has double trigger- the BSS has single triggers. It has chopper-lump barrels- the BSS doesn't. It stays more true to the Anson & Deeley action- the BSS deviates a little. The Model 500 is a better gun than the BSS. At under $400, in the condition you describe, clearly a steal. It's handsome, light, well balanced, and aside from these two small problems, has been a pleasure to shoot and carry. But I've been very happy with my Miroku, something you'll usually hear from owners. I expect they'd know the answer.Ĭan't say about shooting steel-I only hunt upland birds. While the O/U V-style toplever spring shown on Wisner's site certainly looks like mine, I'm uncertain it would fit. After buying and installing the spring from the gunsmith, I found Wisner's site (), which lists lots of information about Miroku guns, though again mostly for O/U models. ![]() Toplever springs on earlier models like mine had a history of failing, and were eventually replaced, at least on the O/U's, with coil springs. Total cost maybe $50, and I had to file an end a bit. After some research, I found a gunsmith in NJ who had a stock of these he'd made up, and sent one. Second, after several years' use, the toplever V spring broke. First the leafspring for the safety snapped I replaced it with a section of wallclock mainspring-detempered, cut and shaped, then retempered. After refinishing the wood with oil, I had two minor problems. Mine is a straight stocked "Model M", choked IC and F, with double triggers, probably made in the late '50's and purchased in Japan by someone in the service. ![]()
